Rock Bags – Environmental Solutions
Rock Bags Are Environmentally Friendly Hard Armouring System For Erosion & Scour Protection | Creeks | Rivers | Coastlines | Beaches | Infrastructure | Ports
Product Overview
Rock Bags are innovative flexible nets that are filled with rock and positioned by machine into an array of construction projects for protection of natural or man made assets from erosion and scour.
They have been developed for use around structures such as bridges, revetments, beaches, shorelines, rivers, creeks, ports and harbours for their rapid deployment and stability in turbulent water. The durable material once filled with rock acts as a flexible gabion rock bag, however much quicker and cheaper to install.
Rock Bags are a sustainable rock armouring solution that offer designers and engineers suitable alternatives to traditional methods and materials such as concrete, gabions, blocks and rip rap.
The bags, available in 1, 2, 4, 6 and 8ton configuration feature robust yet flexible netting that can be rapid filled on-site and positioned into place as a hard armouring solution, erosion control system and scour protection against high velocity water.
High quality netting produced under strict manufacturing processes gives high strength and durability to ensure the bags are suitable under heavy loads, in fact the bags boast single, double of quad layer netting depending on the size and application.
Rock bags are available in 2 main material types being Polyester and HDPE with expected life cycle Polyester is 25 years while HDPE is 50+ years.
One of the advantages of HDPE marine netting is its high strength-to-weight ratio. It is lightweight and flexible, yet strong and durable, making it ideal for use in marine environments. The netting is also resistant to abrasion, tearing, and chemical degradation, making it long-lasting and reliable.
Rock Bags Offer Quality Solutions For The Environment
Rock Bags manufactured in HDPE fibre have been tested to be the most robust netting system in fresh and salt water environments, boasting the highest UV resilience and anti-abrasion properties of any net product.
When filled with graded aggregates they act as mass units with capability of reducing flow velocities and absorbing water energy into the interspacial area between the rocks.
In addition natural habitat for marine life such as invertebrates and small fish is promoted while accumulation of fines, gravels and silts encourages vegetation to establish naturally over time.

The Rock Bags can be used independently or as part of a more complex design in conjunction with other vegetated systems above water level, providing the most effective scour and erosion control solutions available in the market.
The high tech netting material is suitable for use in both freshwater and saltwater conditions. Due to their flexible nature, work far better over traditional armouring methods, provide ecological benefits and can also be vegetated in a short period of time.

Rock Bags are flexible and sustainable armouring system offering suitable alternatives to concrete, gabions, rip rap revetments.
Other benefits include the ability to be installed on uneven, sloping surfaces integrating into challenging environments with limited ground or river bed preparation is required.
Rock Bags can also be used for temporary applications, with a single lift point making the fast and efficient to deploy and retrieve.
